CHALK

CHALK

Dinosaur Designs’ new collection, Chalk, designed by Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy, is a thoughtful exploration of the relationship between form and tone.

The first collection of the new year, Chalk’s stripped-back, tranquil palette signifies an opportunity for renewal and cleansing. Chalk pares back Dinosaur Designs’ familiar use of colour to focus on the organic forms that are intrinsic to the brand’s DNA.

Handmade in the Australian design studio, the homewares and jewellery ’s fluid silhouettes are cast in tones of Chalk Swirl, Sandy Pearl and White Marble, complemented by two new transparent shades, Mist and Frost.

For artist and designer Louise Olsen, the idea of exploring tone as a way to hero form sits at the heart of the collection. She uses one of her favourite expressions to summarise the essence of Chalk, “Colour rushes to our head, but tone touches the soul”.

Both the jewellery and homewares of the Chalk collection explore this narrative around form. Reimagined in the season’s tonal palette, vase and serveware shapes present peaceful, Zen-like silhouettes.

With several new designs, the jewellery celebrates form through layered and interlocking beads accompanied by organic , stacked bangles. Subtle silver accents throughout the jewellery add dimension to the collection’s pared-back palette.

The Chalk campaign, photographed by Jess Ruby James and styled by Joseph Gardner and Heleena Trahanas, brilliantly captures Dinosaur Designs' unique juxtaposition of modern materials used to create objects that embody the natural world.

Pieces from the collection are playfully photographed alongside familiar organic objects such as eggs, mushrooms and onions, echoing their matte, free-form nature as well as the earthy tonal palette.

Pours and splashes of cream and honey interact with the objects , emulating their suspended swirls of resin.

The Chalk collection launches on 7 March in all Dinosaur Designs stores in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, New York, London and online.
