Designers
Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy met while studying painting and drawing at art school in Sydney, Australia and co-founded Dinosaur Designs with Liane Rossler in 1985.
Originally selling hand painted fabrics and jewellery, under the creative direction of Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy, Dinosaur Designs now sells a large, constantly evolving range of handmade resin and sterling silver jewellery and resin homewares in their six stores in Sydney, Melbourne and New York and through stockists world wide.
Handmade Resin and Sterling Silver Jewellery and Homewares
Louise and Steve design each piece of Dinosaur Designs jewellery and homewares which is then hand sculpted in clay in our Sydney studio. Each prototype is characterized by its uneven lines and finger smoothed surface of the design which gives each piece its handmade feel. The prototypes are then cast in resin before being sanded, drilled and finished by hand to give the unique finish for which Dinosaur Designs has become known and loved.
More than 25 years after starting the company Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy still use their idiosyncratic way of looking at the world to create resin and stirling silver jewellery and homewares which surprise and delight and that become cherished and loved by their owners. They have also collaborated with Louis Vuitton and Paul Smith and had work exhibited at London’s Victoria and Albert museum. Pieces have featured in Carolina Herrera runway shows and have been worn by Kate Winslett, Rachel Weiss, Elle Macpherson, Hillary Swank, Chloe Sevigny, Anna Piaggi, and Alicia Keys.
'When you create a piece from scratch, you really bond with it, that's why we design pieces to last a lifetime. We’re excited by the new possibilities and creative challenges that designing and hand making each new range provides. We feel as passionate about Dinosaur Designs today as we did 25 years ago when we started and we'd like to continue for another 25 years.'

'Each collection is a journey and you never quite know where the final destination is going be. That's exciting but you've got to learn to trust your eye and trust it to build a relationship between tone, texture, colour and form.'
